TEMPO TANTRICK (Bangalore)
Electro / Funk / Trip Hop
Electro / Funk / Trip Hop
Tempo Tantrick’s music, while difficult to classify into the rigid confines of a genre, infuses elements of funk, electronica and break beat, while also trying to amalgamate the same with a hint of both members' cultural diversities. Their uniquely diverse musical tastes set them apart from a large majority. To explain it sans the jargon, Tempo Tantrick’s music makes even the most uptight listener move. The principle that the duo works on is relatively simple – to make music that the listener can relate to, retain and recollect. There is no great philosophy or ideology behind the lyrics except that each song is based on something real and that description is what best represents the duo and their music. While Tempo Tantrick primarily functions as a duo, they aim to collaborate with various
musicians to create a dynamic that is always fresh and diverse.
Fuzz the Buzz
Arfaaz began his musical adventure at the tender age of 3 when he was gripped by an overwhelming urge to determine the source of music emanating from the mysterious heights of his father’s wall cabinet. The pursuit of this led to a tremendous fall, cushioned only by the thick tuft of “fuzz” on his head. It is believed that the impact led to a rewiring of his neuro-impulses causing an undying love for music that lasts to this day. The fact that he grew up in a family that never remembered to turn the stereo system ‘off’ only led to a deeper fascination for the sonic space. His first experiment was with his father’s harmonium and the next with a cheap acoustic guitar that seemed to come along with an instructor. But nothing came close to the joy of banging on class tables in school, or on elevator walls and other surfaces to produce contagious rhythms. That’s when the drums
started playing him. Having played for rock/funk bands like the Galeej Gurus and the defunct Zebediah Plush, Arfaaz has now tuned himself to the electronic space which is fast gaining popularity.
The Blah
Priyanka’s interest in music has been eclectic for as long as she has known what music means to her. Having grown up listening to her father’s Don McLean and Pink Floyd records and her brothers’ Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and U2 tapes, she developed a somewhat
confused taste in music accompanied with an affinity towards her mom’s habit of jiving to Elvis. She developed a taste for electronic music when she was introduced to the world of Daft Punk, Prodigy and Chemical Brothers and later succumbed to the luring sounds of
Morcheeba and Frou Frou. She discovered her passion for singing fairly early in life, having pegged a secure spot in school choirs, while she also indulged in a fair bit of playback singing. She has also dabbled in some acting and has acted in various plays and a short film.
